Global Superstar Anitta Drops Highly Anticipated New Album “Funk Generation”

Delivering Brazilian Funk to the global stage, GRAMMY® Award-nominated international superstar Anitta proudly releases her anxiously awaited new album, Funk Generation, today via Republic Records/Universal Music Latin Entertainment/Universal Music Canada.

Funk Generation sees Anitta at the forefront of bringing Brazilian Funk to a new generation around the world. The album includes highly buzzed about songs including “Grip”, “Fria”, and “Ahi” ft. Sam Smith.

About the record, Anitta said, « Funk Generation embodies every nuance of this 100% Brazilian musical genre that has shaped my journey as both a person and an artist. Funk is ingrained in the culture of those who live in Brazilian favelas, where I come from, and has often been unfairly judged as lacking artistic value, even associated with organized crime. It reflects the classism and racism that haunt our society. I’m part of a generation that embraced the rhythm, emerged from the favelas, and conquered Brazil.

My new project is very special because it signifies my intention to create an international funk album, something I’ve always dreamed of. It’s fulfilling to see that funk is now a source of inspiration and art in the global music scene—a genre with value, awards, and admiration.

With an infectious rhythm, whether strong or melodic, the songs on my album draw from many influences, from Funk Carioca to pop, and electronic music. I made sure to collaborate with renowned Brazilian funk producers. Together, we’ve crafted something you can enjoy, dance to, and sing along with. »

The album arrives on the heels of a series of buzzed about performances, including last night’s Latin American Music Awards, where she performed singles “Double Team” and “Sabana,” and a surprise performance at Coachella last Friday when she joined Peso Pluma on stage to perform their hit “BELLAKEO.”

What’s more, Anitta recently announced THE BAILE FUNK EXPERIENCE TOUR, which will see the international star bring a unique funk experience in special intimate venues that hits cities around the world, giving fans an authentic taste of the iconic funk parties in Brazil. The tour, which kicks off May 18th in Mexico City, includes Anitta’s first ever North American leg which will bring her to Los Angeles, New York City, Miami, Chicago, Toronto and more. Shortly after going on sale last week, many of the shows have already sold out including Los Angeles, Miami, Orlando, and New York. A second show has been added for New York on June 3. Following the North American leg, Anitta will bring the BAILE FUNK EXPERIENCE to South America and then Europe including Bogota, Buenos Aires, London, Paris, Ibiza and more. The global superstar has also already sold out her shows in Berlin, Amsterdam, London and Paris. See below for full tour routing.

Funk Generation follows Anitta’s three track bundle, Funk Generation: A Favela Love Story, which was released in 2023 as a precursor to the new album. The three tracks were “Funk Rave,” “Used To be” and “Casi Casi,” which became fan favorites. After the successful release, Anitta released “BELLAKEO”, a joint track with Peso Pluma – watch the official video HERE. “BELLAKEO” went on to become Anitta’s highest-charting entry on the Billboard Hot 100 to date. Anitta released “Joga pra Lua,” in collaboration with producers Pedro Sampaio and DENNIS. as her final single of 2023 to end the year with a bang. Anitta recently gave fans a preview of what they can expect from FUNK GENERATION, with the fiery lead single “Double Team” (ft. Brray & Bad Gyal) alongside an official music video. The single was produced by Botlok and the music video was directed by Sam Hayes.
