Interview: Todd Barrow

Can you tell us about the inspiration behind your latest album, and what themes or stories you aimed to convey through your music?

The new album is called, “American Made”. Trying to bring the country back together with music. Songs relate to all age groups including pop culture.

Music often has the power to transport people to different places and times. Can you describe a moment in your life when a particular song or album had a profound impact on you?

I recall at a very young age listening to an album by the Eagles. It was called, “In the long run”. Incredible songwriting by Glen Frey and Don Henley. Still get ideas from this album.

Many artists have rituals or routines they follow before performing or recording. Do you have any unique or quirky pre-show or pre-recording rituals that you find help you get in the zone?

You could say I’m pretty quirky in both areas. Always with prayer and meditation. Before the studio I listen to Buddy Holly and Elvis music. Before a show I think about those who are coming and to give my best performance. A super positive attitude.

Your lyrics often tell a story or convey a message. Can you share the story behind one of your songs and the inspiration that led to its creation?

My song gonna drive on the new album is about live music after Covid epidemic. Inspiration for all artists and bands to get back out there on stage.

If you could curate a music festival with a lineup of your dream artists, who would be the headliners, and what would the theme of the festival be?

The theme would be UNITY! Bring in ZZ Top, Bryan Adams, David Setzer (stray cats), Bob Seger Billy Joel, Boston, 38 special and Justin Timberlake. Sammy Hagar would host the event.

Music can be a powerful tool for advocacy and change. Are there any social or political causes that you’re passionate about, and how does your music play a role in promoting these issues?

Deeply passionate about charity work. I personally donate to multiple charity organizations. I’m an advocate against bullying and those experiencing suicidal thoughts. Yes, make a difference with my music in many ways.

The music industry has evolved significantly with technology. How do you see artificial intelligence and emerging technologies impacting the creation and distribution of music in the future?

AI is going to be a game changer for the music industry. I embrace all the new technology developments which will advance recording, live performance and distribution of music.

Many recording artists evolve over time. How do you see your musical journey changing and growing in the next decade?

Never too old to learn something new. I’m always adapting to the pace in the music business. I feel more confident about my music than ever before. These are going to be the best days of my life making music. I take time to mentor up and coming artist with my expertise.
